Hi-Shine Hair

The pics above are after conditioning with the Extra Virgin Olive Oil. NO OIL SHEEN added! I simply blow dried my hair and used a ceramic flat iron.

My fave products for hi-def shine are:

Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Raw Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I mixed the Jamaican Black Castor Oil & Raw Coconut Oil together in an 8 oz bottle with a nozzle (not pictured) for an easy application. My cousin, who is an hair growth and healthy hair expert (most of my family has beautiful hair), advised me to always seal my ends with this mixture and it works!

You will see thicker, stronger, shinier, healthier hair and scalp! :-)

After I wash my hair, I apply a generous amount of conditioner (usually Nature's Gate Jojoba) and also add Olive Oil to my mixture and let it soak for about 10 mins or longer. I rinse the mixture out with warm water, blow dry and curl and voila, HI-DEF Shine in NO Time! Haha! Try it!

an inconvenient truth

If there is one thing I have learned in 2010, it would be that everyone has an agenda. It can be good or not so good. Everyone is looking out for their own self interest, whether it be a wife, aunt, friend or associate.

I have been guilty myself, I'm sure. I can definitely exhibit a selfishness in certain situations but I am not a naturally selfish person. I usually put others before my own comfort or feelings, which is definitely not a good thing in most situations. It can be, however, with people who know how to appreciate it. Also, selfishness, at times, can be a good thing as well in a different context though.

I have dealt with people who were only down for the cause when it was convenient for them, master manipulators who exploit your niceness for their gain, arrogant friends (not anymore) with elitist attitudes who appear as strangers to themselves, those who have no loyalties and also narcissists (and believe me, they run rampant). People will be people and I have truly learned to act accordingly and not so accommodatingly.

My most important lesson from 2010 is to "know thyself" and "know thy worth and value". I know that the only thing I can control is my actions and the only person I can control is myself in ANY situation. I have learned to let go and take the experience for what it is and to keep pushing towards the goal.

I have been extremely blessed in love, to have a man, who is also my best friend, who adores me for who I am and who I am not. So cheers to 2011! Let the fun begin! :-)

Lately, I have been feeling like this whole social networking thing has taken over in areas where it should be about more realistic relationships and connections and moments. Facebook especially, makes things seem so much more disconnected and easy in a sense.

This has been on my mind for quite some time because I have recently experienced one of Facebook's horrid downfalls to reality. A friend of mine (well I'm not sure if we could even still call it a 'friendship' per se) recently had a baby and while she lives out of state, I wouldn't have been able to see the new baby but I was expecting to receive maybe an email with his birth announcement or a pic text or something. However, what I received was what everyone else who is her Facebook friend received, a status update and a picture of him posted to her page.

It was ~~almost~~ offensive as I know she isn't close with everyone on her Facebook, so it wasn't like the pic was mass-emailed to a bunch of close friends, it was EVERYONE on her Facebook page including close (or so I thought) friends.

I even discussed it with a good friend of mine who agreed that for a birth or birthday or special event in someone's life, Facebook and all of these social networking sites, just don't cut it for really connecting or reaching out to people who have been a part of your life BEYOND FaceSpace and MyBook (hehe).

When one of my friends or myself have a birthday, it's ok to write "happy b-day" on a FB wall, but it doesn't stop there when we have actual telephone numbers or addresses. I mean, c'mon, could a guy propose to a woman on Facebook? I think not.

I think that we have lost track of our real relationships and those phone calls and interactions that water those relationship and help them to prosper and stick. Anyway, this is me, venting, writing, sharing my thoughts! Lata Gatas!

For this look I used M.A.C Satin lipstick Faux which is a GORGEOUS satin pink! I lined and filled it in to make it pop with MAC lip pencil in a wine color then just put a basic clear gloss over it to finish the look.

For my eyes, I used M.A.C 's Artifact paint pot for a base and my L'Oreal HIP duo set to bring out the sparkly pink and plum tones! Of course I lined with Ebony and used Zoom Lash for my mascara! I rarely use blush. I lined my lower lid with Ebony from M.A.C and also a NYX Jumbo pencil stick in Pure Gold in the corners and towards the inside of my lower lid! =) Check it out!

This look was inspired by my nightlife and a creamsheen by M.A.C called "Hang Up" which REALLY makes my eyes pop! First time I tried it on I was in l-o-v-e! I used minimal eye makeup just to make sure the lips were the center of attention! Check it out! =)

Here's a pretty pink daytime look! I used Rimmel's Pale Pink and Rose duo set. I forget the name but will update the post when I find it!
My blush is a Clinique cream stick and my lip color is Please Me from M.A.C but glossed over with a pretty shimmer pink by Revlon. I used several things when achieving a look, but this one just popped right out at me! Of course my liner is Ebony by M.A.C and my mascara is Fatale by Lancome (discontinued).

Golden Goodness Body Cream

What you'll need:

1 Small to Medium Sized Empty lotion container (optional)

1 Moisturizing Lotion or Oil (cause we don't do ashy-anything-ness)

1 Shimmer Dust/ Cream (no sparkles, this is NOT a 3rd grade Science Fair project)

*If you are a brown girl, go for a more golden shimmer, if you are a porcelain girl, go for a more pearl shimmer.

Typically, you can buy a variation of this concoction at your local Rite-Aid, Target or CVS but what's better than putting something on your beautiful, gorgeous skin, than something you created (kinda) yourself.

The recipe is fairly simple, get your empty container, squirt your lotion or oil base into the container (you can use both for an even more luxe feel). Once the bottle is about 3/4 full, scoop out some of your shimmer dust and put it in the bottle as well. Close the bottle, duh! lol. Then shake or swirl with your finger or anything you can find to get the job done right! You can also opt to not use another container and just simply use the original lotion/oil bottle and go for what you know. And VOILA! Golden skin in no time! Rub on lotion/oil mixture after bath or shower for a radiant natural glow.

Keep in mind, an oil mixture will be even more radiant.

Almond
Peppermint
Tea Tree

Cooking 101: Tasty Organic Chicken Wings

So today I decided I wanted to try something different and post on my cooking ventures, which I REALLY love to do! So anyway my ~~recipe~~ post of choice will be good old-fashioned chicken! The way I cook chicken is basic and tasty. I have one rule, well two, ok a few but they are:

1) NO SALT
2) You should smell your seasonings once you have seasoned your chicken.
3) Go for what you know (in the taste department, of course)
4) Experiment!

My seasoning of choice is: Lemon, Pepper (or you can opt for a bottle of Lemon Pepper Seasoning), Garlic (Minced or Powdered but NOT GARLIC SALT), Italian Seasoning (Basil, Rosemary, Thyme) and Onion.

If you are like me, at times, I literally like to take a lemon(or lime) and not only wash my chicken in its zesty juices (kills germs) but also use the peel to make a lemon zest that I will then shave over the chicken which makes for a zesty lil' bird! You can use ground pepper, you can ground it yourself, or whatever you choose because pepper is EXCELLENT for you! It contains Vitamin D! Whowouldathunkit!?

Your garlic can also be minced (chopped finely) or from a bottle (remember Garlic powder NOT salt)! You can then pick up some basil, rosemary or thyme from your market or grab a bottle of the seasoning (your choice). The onion can also be chopped in bottle form or a fresh onion from the market!

Set the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. I use a flat baking pan, you may oil the pan with olive oil for a non-stick or slap some foil on that baby! Give the chicken about 45 minutes (check your chicken periodically because all ovens were not created equally) and VOILA!!! A lovely, tasty bird that will tickle your taste buds! =)

Also, I chose organic chicken for no particular reason and you will be surprised at how much smaller they are than our regular hormone-induced chicken.

so it's been a minute since i actually wrote something from the skull, but tonight something just hit me to revamp my blog and spill some thoughts. so here is my warning, if ur a bible thumper or holy roller...LEAVE NOW or forever hold ur peace!

so anyway, on facebook there's alot of status updating going on and i came across one in particular that stated "how could the 'created' tell God if and when they'd believe and who they'd believe in..." or something like that. anyway, alot of times, i truly hold my peace bcuz hey its facebook, whatever u wanna post, thats on you. however this particular night i couldnt hold my tongue, well fingers and i typed away...only to delete it 8 mins later. why, u ask? well, people will believe what they want to believe and instead of me wasting my precious energy in trying to explain that "my God" isn't some 'slave master who tells you to believe in Him or else', i decided to just keep the silence and go on about my business. now the interesting part is that i never hear from the poster but as soon as she saw my comment, she calls me mysteriously. come to think of it, i didn't even have her number in my phone, thats how much we dont talk. she prolly had to ask for mine! who knows?! but we all know "why" she called...O_o you know the type that thinks to themselves "oh let me get my bible and set her straight on the path of righteousness and a sin-free life"...no thanks.

now before you go thinking "oh goodness, this girl is satans spawn and not a believer"... WAIT! it's really none of your business, but yes i do believe in God. how can i not, God is all around me. however, i do not choose to believe because someone says i will go to hell if i dont. i believe because i choose to. remember that thing called "free-will", well i used mine and chose God.

so anyway, moving on. i honestly get nauseous even thinking about how i once had the sheep mentality and could be led into believing something because i was afraid to use my own brain and trust that without doubt or better yet, curiousity, i would have never, ever discovered my God. and believe me, my God is not the slave master, scary lurker holy rollers make Him out to be.

My first time being introduced to Yahzarah was on Foreign Exchange's album released in 2008 titled Leave It All Behind. She has this hauntingly honest way of singing her heart out and gauging you with the most sincere lyrics and melodies. She croons to put it simply. So it was no guess that when I literally stumbled upon this album, The Ballad of Purple St. James, that I instantly hit download from iTunes.

Strike Up the Band - You will literally feel like you're at a live concert where the vocals and harmonies are superb. "And without further adieu..."

Why Dontcha Call Me No More - Modern-day rocker meets soul in an instant with hard-hitting drums, upfront lyrics and sing-talk vocals as Yahzarah tries to figure out why her lover isn't calling anymore. "I hope ya happy or whatever, on 2nd thought, not really..." Love it.

Cry Over You (featuring Phonte) - Deep synths and nice bass lines. Yahzarah delivers a song that's easy to ride to and sing along with the anthem "aint gonna cry over you" as she clearly fuels a woman's empowerment movement! Phonte's rap is catchy, short and fits perfectly.

All My Days (featuring Darien Brockington) - Melodic, sensual, light and sultry. Yahzarah and Darien deliver a perfect love song that speaks to lovers all over.

Come Back As A Flower - Vocals metaphorically sang as if they were frail and light like a flower. Does that make sense? Pretty melodies, although not a favor. Easily skip-able but enjoyable nonetheless as filler.

Dedicated To You - Sang in a 20's style harmony method. Completely acapella. Nice but skip-able as well.

The Lie - Ladies and gentlemen she has arrived. Constant beat over a haunting synth and old record FX, as she sings about her man thinking the grass may be greener on the other side. She chants, "it's like the bigger the lie, the more you believe...but you have no idea what you're up against". Love it.

Last to Leave - One of the most sincere songs I've heard in a long time. Simple and honest and like it's just you, the man she is singing to and her in a dark, smoky room. She pleads beautifully. The notes she sing here are absolutely perfect. Harmonies incredible. I may have listened to this one 10 times. "U got to kidding, if you think I'm willing, to give up on this thing we've started..."

Have A Heart - With a beginning guitar riff, reminiscent of The Isley Brothers "Voyage to Atlantis", a wonderfully produced melody creeps in and Yahzarah croons her story with ease and sincerity. Definitely a fave of mines.

Change Your Mind - Very different beat, almost syncopated with different arrangements about an old flame who is seemingly regained interest in Yahzarah as she sings, "I can turn your world around in a heartbeat and bring you to your knees again but I can't change your mind..."

Starship - Cosmic reverbs and simply beat as Yahzarah sings in her upper registered as she takes off in her "starship going straight to the moon...". Interesting but not a fave.

Shadow - A classic piano accompaniment, strings and a heartfelt goodbye full of encouragement and mellow oohs as she sings, "water and ice kiss and snows all around...." Gorgeous.

Love Come Save the Day - Jazz infused with soul and airy flavor. Simply divine. "Loving you's the very essence of being in the arms of heaven..." A Perfect Goodbye...

I also recommend another song from Yahzarah's previous album Blackstar "Love Is You" released in 2003.

Heavy Rain

While I'm thoroughly hooked on GTA IV for PS3 and usually wouldn't really be to interested in any other games, I can honestly say Heavy Rain is a B-E-A-S-T! With over 32 different endings, as each and every decision you make can change the outcome of the game, it has truly impressed me and other gamers alike. The detail is unbelieveable, the interaction and controls are innovative-to say the least. I'm thinking between this and God of War 3, it's very hard to determine who will win Game of the Year! This game is a must-see, must-try, must-play! =)
